New Art Studio Opens at Brompton Heights
October 20, 2011
On Thursday, October 20, Brompton Heights will celebrate the Grand Opening of its new in-residence art studio where residents will have the opportunity to enjoy painting in a beautifully sunlit room with formal instruction from two artists: recreation staff member Ann Milliken and volunteer Jane Hamister who was the original Recreation Director at Brompton Heights 26 years ago (and mother of CEO Mark Hamister). Classes will include watercolor painting, drawing, collages, ceramics, acrylics and oils, and instruction by guest artists.
The new art studio is located at the end of the Presidential Wing in what used to be the building’s original ice cream parlor. With the additions to Brompton Heights five years ago, the ice cream parlor was relocated to Hopkins Hall. Rather than having empty space where the original ice cream parlor once was, Jane had a vision for putting that room to good use. She designed the layout and developed the classes of the art studio. This studio will be a wonderful addition for the residents of Brompton Heights and provides yet another recreation opportunity within the building!
